Unit 2:  Connecting Character, Culture, and Community

Module A

LAFS.3.RL.1.2- I can recount stories including folktales, fables, and myths from diverse cultures.

I can determine their central message, lesson, or moral and explain how it is conveyed through key details in the text.

LAFS.3.RL.1.3- I can describe characters in the story (traits, motivations, and feelings).

I can determine how a character’s actions contribute to the sequence of events in a story.

Module B

LAFS.3.RL.1.2- I can recount stories including folktales, fables, and myths from diverse cultures.

I can determine their central message, lesson, or moral and explain how it is conveyed through key details in the text.

LAFS.3.RI.2.5- I can use text features and search tools (e.g., key words, sidebars, hyperlinks) to locate information relevant to a given topic efficiently.

LAFS.3.RI.3.7- I can use information gained from illustrations (e.g., maps, photographs) and the words in a text to demonstrate understanding of the text (e.g., where, when, why, and how key events occur).

LAFS.3.RI.3.9- I can compare and contrast the most important points and key details presented in two texts on the same topic.

Unit 2

Module A

LAFS.3.W.1.3-I can write narratives to develop real or imagined experiences or events using effective technique, descriptive details, and clear event sequence

LAFS.3.W.2.4- With guidance and support from adults, produce writing in which the development and organization are appropriate to task and purpose

Module B

LAFS.3.W.1.2- I can write an informative/explanatory texts to examine a topic and convey ideas and information clearly.

STEM Overview Semester 2

DE-ElaMai2ZHo-Dm3seyLoRMXOL1PxDOUKOoNa6IzyCXwNj_7AHFCDZqZ-h1-fxDgoFuBg=s119

Unit A- The Meaning of Multiplication and Division

Learning Chunk 3

MAFS.3.OA.1.3- I can use multiplication and division within 100 to solve word problems in situations involving equal groups, arrays, and measurement quantities.

MAFS.3.OA.4.8- I can solve two-step word problems using the four operations.

I can solve two-step word problems using a with standing letter to represent an unknown quantity.

I can assess the reasonableness of an answer using mental computation and estimation strategies.

MAFS.3.OA.4.9- I can identify arithmetic patterns and explain them in operations; e.g. I can observe that 4 times a number is always even and explain why 4 times a number can be decomposed into two equal addends.

MAFS.3.MD.1.2- I can measure and estimate liquid volumes and masses of objects using standard units of grams (g), kilograms (kg), and liters (l).

I can use one of the four operations to solve one-step word problems involving masses or volumes that are given in the same units.

Unit B-When is the Standard Algorithm for Addition/Subtraction the Most Efficient Strategy?

Learning Chunk 1

MAFS.3.NBT.1.1- I can use place value understanding to round whole numbers to the nearest 10 or 100.

MAFS.3.NBT.1.2- I can fluently add and subtract within 1000 using strategies and algorithms based on place value, properties of operations, and/or the relationship between addition and subtraction

Learning Chunk 2

MAFS.3.MD.1.1- I can tell and write time to the nearest minute and measure time intervals in minutes.

I can solve word problems involving addition and subtraction of time intervals in minutes.

MAFS.3.MD.1.2- I can measure and estimate liquid volumes and masses of objects using standard units of grams (g), kilograms (kg), and liters (l).

I can add, subtract, multiply, or divide to solve one-step word problems involving masses or volumes that are given in the same units.
